Carjackers, armed robbers each get 40 years in prison

They will only be eligible for parole after serving 30 years says the police

LIMPOPO – Two accused were sentenced to 80 years in prison collectively by the High Court in Sekgosese today (Tuesday).

This according to a statement issued by LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

Lesley Baloyi (25) and Elvis Ngobeni (24) were each sentenced to an effective 40 years’ imprisonment without fine on five cases of carjacking and armed robbery. They will only be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.

The accused were terrorising community members in and around Botlokwa, Watervaal and Sekgosese where vehicles, including cigarette delivery vehicles, were hijacked at gun point.

The Provincial Tracking Team tracked down the men down and managed to arrest them.

Provincial Police Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the sentences handed down to Baloyi and Ngobeni and further warned criminals to stop committing crimes, as the police will continue to bring offenders to book.

The General commended the team members involved in the arrest of the two perpetrators on a job well done and he encouraged them to double their efforts until all streets and roads are safe from crime.
