Capricorn district mayors inaugurated

"Our agenda is to build upon what has already been established and carve a new vision to take this district forward," Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Mayor, John Mpe explains.

LIMPOPO – Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Mayor, John Mpe, says they are ready to re-organise the district into a concerted planning theatre that is inclusive of all the plans and aspirations of their local municipalities, sector departments and businesses.

This was announced during a joint district inauguration ceremony at Ben Seraki Sport Field in Ga-Maleboho on Saturday.

Mpe says after almost 100 days since the new council was elected, they are pleased that they took over at a time when 89% of the district population has access to water while 88% has got access to energy, and at a time when over 250 km the district road network is tarred.

“Our agenda is to build upon what has already been established and carve a new vision to take this district forward,” he explains.

Mpe says their mission as municipality is to see everyone step up and play a role in working together to turn the district into a centre of integrated planning.

“This will not only boost critical project management capacity but also improve service delivery in line with planned outputs, budgets and time frames,” he adds.

He explains that if they are to make an impact on the service backlogs and levels of poverty in the district, they need to drastically scale up their commitment to economic transformation.

“Our service delivery machine is fully oiled and ready to overcome all the impending challenges in order to ensure the economy serves the people,” he continues. He says the local municipalities alone cannot eradicate poverty and thus they need to build a broad and sustainable partnership with all stakeholders in the district and strive to reach a common vision.

“We will work together to ensure that all stakeholders are brought into the mainstream of our programme of action and are able to contribute to our development agenda,” says Mpe.

Kgoshi Ngoako Maleboho urged the communities to make local government everybody’s business and work together to build the district into a model district.

“CDM is a municipality for the people and I therefore urge everyone in our communities to have a passion for the development of our municipality and to participate continuously in municipal outreach programmes,” Maleboho explains.

Maleboho further says with the same spirit, they shall realise their dream of building and transforming villages into towns and towns into cities.
