POLOKWANE – Lebogang Mabitsela is not your average 17-year-old; she is a star learner, excels in sport and was recently named head girl of Mitchell House College for 2017.
Lebogang is very active at the school, taking part in both sporting and cultural activities. She is captain of the netball and soccer first teams and represents the province playing hockey. Not only that, she also participates in athletics, competing in the 100m and 200m running divisions. She is part of the school choir and takes part in Drama. “I never want to say ‘I should have done that’, taking part in all these activities helps me achieve more,” she says.
Lebogang has been in the top three for academics since Gr 9. “I don’t want to disappoint my parents or myself,” she says.
Besides being active and involved in school activities, her other hobbies include exploring nature. “About a month ago I went on a 50 km hike in Magoebaskloof and I’m planning on hiking in the Kruger next year during the June holidays,” she explains. She also does community service when she has time. “I like being around people and I enjoy making them laugh. People think I’m funny even though I don’t see that.”
On being elected head girl for 2017, Lebogang says she was surprised when the announcement was made. “Not that I didn’t believe in myself, I just didn’t expect it.” She is looking forward to taking on the responsibility as leader of her fellow learners.
“Our theme for the upcoming year is enthusiasm and participation, we want the rest of the school to get involved and take pride in Mitchell House.”“I like challenging myself and participating in things that I’ve never imagined myself doing, because I know that God gives me strength to do all things,” she concludes.
