Residents scammed in muni job scam

The public is hereby notified about false job offers being made on behalf of the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – According to a statement issued by Municipal Spokesperson, Disree Manyane, the municipality continues to experience a number of cases where people are promised false job offers by an unknown person claiming to be working for the municipality

“Five people have recently fallen victim to this job scam where they were asked to deposit money ranging from R150 to R350 to be used for uniforms and medical certificates,” says Manyane.

She further adds that the perpetrator is now targeting Mokopane residents who did not apply or submitted their CVs for any advertised vacancies in the municipality.

“As Polokwane Municipality we want to make our people aware that we don’t call people for interviews using private or cellphone numbers for job interviews. All our advertised positions will be published in newspapers and on the municipal website.”

“We urge the public to be vigilant when being promised jobs they did not apply for and not to pay any money for jobs within the municipality.”

The Municipality is currently conducting internal investigations and urges all victims of this scam to report their cases to the municipality and to open criminal cases at their local South African Police Services (SAPS), Manyane concludes.
