"Several people ran away to save their lives."

LIMPOPO – The police have launched a manhunt for a group responsible for the attack on church pastors and their congregation in Mecklenburg outside Burgersfort yesterday (Sunday).

A statement issued by police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirms members of the Devine Church from Seshego and surrounding areas arrived at Ntswaneng village for the official opening of the church on Sunday.

“When they arrived and found another group of people in the church, a fight allegedly ensued,” says Ngoepe.

“Several people ran away to save their lives.”

Three vehicles parked outside the church building were set alight and several others severely damaged during the incident.

Several people sustained serious injuries during the attack and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment while many others had to make their way back to Seshego in buses. The rest went to the police station for safety reasons and to report the incident, adds Ngoepe.

No arrests have been made and police investigations continue.
