SAPS’s campaign to curb crime this festive season

LIMPOPO – It is common knowledge that crime increases during the festive season and as such, the South African Police Services (SAPS) recently launched their festive season crime prevention campaign. The campaign included road blocks at several locations around the CBD, individual searches on the streets and ended up with an event at the Limpopo Mall which was targeted at the community.

According to Cluster Commander General Jan Scheepers, they are looking at making the province safe.

“This operation will continue until January and our aim is to increase police visibility in order to continue to keep people in the city and surrounding areas safe. This includes plain clothes officers in unmarked vehicles,” Scheepers said.

Brigadier Dikeledi Mangena shares tips on how to stay safe during the festive season:
“Firstly, people need to be vigilant while withdrawing money from ATMs. Don’t let strangers try and help you, rather call a security guard to assist you. You should also not keep large sums of cash on you, rather make deposits,” Mangena urges.
He also warns the community against bogus police officers that have been targeting people. Some cases have been reported in the Mankweng area where criminals have been targeting pensioners.

“If you have a problem or a case that needs to be reported, rather go to the police station or dial 08600 10111,” Mangena concludes.
