Mokopane residents rocked by two robberies in one week

Shots were fired early on Thursday morning in Mokopane after armed robbers targeted yet another businesswoman in broad day light.

MOKOPANE – According to a statement issued by Lt. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the woman was on her way to deposit money at a bank in Van Heerden Street at approximately 11:30 yesterday morning, when she was approached by two unknown suspects. They pulled out a gun, pointed it at her and demanded money.

“The woman tried to escape but one of the suspects threatened to shoot her, while the other grabbed her bag. When she screamed for help, the suspects fired three shots into the air,” Ngoepe said.

“Fortunately no one was hurt, but the suspects got away and no arrests have been made,” Ngoepe continued.

This is the second incident this week where someone was targeted en route to deposit large sums of money.

In this week’s issue, Bosveld Review reports on robbers who opened fire at a guard during a robbery at Mokopane Mall and of two women who were on their way to the bank when they were held at gunpoint by unknown suspects.

Ngoepe appeals to all residents to be extra careful when depositing large sums of money and to report any suspicious behaviour.
