CBD motor thieves on the prowl in Groblersdal

Theft from motor vehicles is increasingly becoming a problem in the Groblersdal Central Business District.

LIMPOPO –  Police said they were inundated weekly with an escalating number of cases of theft out of motor vehicles in the CBD, and warned motorist to exercise extra caution.
Const Julia Mampa, Groblersdal Police Spokesperson, said that crime was on the increase, months after it had largely been reduced.
“Motorists have increasingly becoming victims of this crime only from about two months ago. We had seen a massive reduction earlier through the advent of street patrollers privately hired by businesses in town. The perpetrators are now operating throughout the CBD, not only in Van Riebeeck Street and the area next to the taxi rank, as was the case before. We are appealing to motorists to exercise extra caution when parking their vehicle
Mampa said although police were intensifying the fight against crime, motorists were still urged to ensure that they do not leave their valuables in their cars where they can easily be seen by criminals.
“We are appealing to motorists to ensure their vehicles are safely locked. The modus operandi is to break into the vehicles after motorists have left their valuables in full view after parking their vehicles,” she explained.
Mampa issued the warning that the criminals would be punished to the fullest extent of the law when caught.
