Royal families unite to promote tourism

"Despite the drought, this province has fertile soil and the communities should start agricultural projects to contribute to job creation," says chief Vasco Manavhela.

ELIM – Speaking on behalf of the Manavhela royal family, chief Vasco Manavhela said it was a great honour to forge business ties with people who put the interest of their community first when the Manavhela and Matsila royal families agreed to forge a strong alliance in order to learn more about greenhouse crop farming.
The two families met at the Matsila Royal House near Elim to seal the deal regarding their cooperation on Saturday.
“We believe chief Livhuwani Matsila’s advice will play a big part in putting our nature reserve on the map which will in turn encourage more tourists to visit. Our main aim is to promote our image and subsequently encourage tourism,” he said.
“Even though the drought has hit us hard, we do our best to ensure our animals do not die of thirst by using tankers to supply water to the game. Other problems we encounter are poaching and wildfires but we hope to work together to find solutions to these concerns.”
He continued, saying: “Despite the drought, this province has fertile soil and the communities should start agricultural projects to contribute to job creation and the growth of our province.
“Traditional leaders must lead by example and those who do not know how to start agricultural projects are welcome to visit the Matsila Community Development Project to learn,” he urged.
He added that other areas which can be developed in the communities include projects such as concrete making, bricklaying, chicken farming, and a piggery among others which will all benefit the community.
“We can ask government for assistance in getting these projects off the ground or supplying us with the machinery needed to make these projects a success.
“Let’s stand up and do things for ourselves. The development at Bin Lavin Nature Reserve is a step in the right direction but we still have a long way to go in the development of our communities,” Matsila said.
