Rameez Patel case resumes next month

Patel stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima, in April last year.

POLOKWANE – The murder trial of Rameez Patel has been postponed to 19 December.
Patel stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima, in April last year.
He pleaded not guilty.
The trial has seen many state witnesses take the stand to give their recollection of events that took place on the day of the murder.
Last week, Const David Nkuna remained on the stand for the third day.
He had earlier told the court that Patel told him he suspected it was a house robbery.
The state also waited for two key witnesses, a worker of Patel’s, who has since disappeared and would have also been a state witness in the Fanie Adams case, which Rameez was also accused of but the case was withdrawn due to lack of evidence, as well as Patel’s domestic worker who has also disappeared.
WO Masilo Ramashapa, who also testified, told the court he retrieved and printed three photos from a cell phone of a black woman holding a gun. He said the only reason why he printed the photos was due to a resemblance in the colour of the tracksuit worn by the woman and that of the hand in the photo which was holding the gun.
The trial will continue in the Polokwane High Court in December.
