Welcome water relief after 20 years

EFF provides water to villagers who have had to buy water from neighbouring towns for two decades

LIMPOPO – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) recently installed five water taps in the Bloodriver area to bring relief to residents who say they have had to source water from surrounding areas for the past 20 years.

EFF Provincial Secretary, Jossey Buthane, said the EFF ensured its people got water after they realised the local government had been dragging its feet for so long. “We installed five water taps in the area which our people can use. This is not the first time we have delivered water to our people. We recently gave people in Vuwani water and we will continue assisting our people,” Buthane explained.

EFF Commander in Chief, Julius Malema, officially handed over the water project in Bloodriver on Sunday.

Residents in the area complained about being without water for more than 20 years. EFF councillors assured residents they would take it upon themselves to ensure there is water in the area and also promised to address the matter with the Polokwane Municipality.

Villagers allege they repeatedly reported the matter but it seems their grievances fell on deaf ears and they have been buying water for domestic use and consumption for over 20 years.

EFF officials started providing villagers with water using their own bakkies, a few days after learning of their situation.

Buthane said the ANC led government failed the people once again and the EFF has come to the rescue and used the little they have to deliver basic services to the people.

When asked about the cost of the project, Buthane declined to comment, saying: “Figures are not important. What is important is that we gave our people water.”
