15OH5 a band destined for success
15OH5 is a local Indie/ Folk-pop band that recently burst on the scene and are already making a name for themselves.
POLOKWANE – The band, 15OH5 is an indie folk-pop band formed by friends whose varying musical backgrounds give them something new to offer listeners.
The band was formed in 2016 by their drummer, Quinton Boucher, who soon realised that each band member’s different taste in music gave them a unique sound which people could enjoy.
“I always wanted to start a band and straight after school I had the perfect opportunity to create one with my friends,” said Quinton. The band currently consists of Quinton as drummer, Juanie Willemse as singer and acoustic guitarist, Emile Vermeulen as the pianist and singer, Ben Schempers is the bass guitarist and Christiaan (Tiaan) Kühn is the guitarist.
“Even though we all have a different taste in music, we somehow take these differences and create a unique sound which we think people really like and enjoy,” said Juanie.
Currently the band has played at festivals such as Rocking for Rhinos in Hoedspruit, Railways in Pretoria and other venues where they received positive feedback from all the listeners.
“Even though we are not a big band as yet, our ultimate dream is to play music full-time. We enjoy playing together for packed audiences,” said Emile.
The members also said that their dreams can sometimes be problematic as each member works, making it difficult to practice and put as much time as they would like into the band. Nevertheless, each member is dedicated to making a success of the band, and to realise their dream of one day being able to play as a full-time band and go on tour.
“We can see that people love our music and we enjoy the journey and challenges we face together so everything is worth it at the end” said Ben. They create their own music and aim to release their first single in November.
