Burst water pipe spoils perfect throw

The damage caused by a burst water pipe at the Peter Mokaba Stadium may disrupt tomorrow's (Saturday) Javelin item during the Marius Lengton Athletics Meeting.

POLOKWANE – A photo confirms the damage caused by the burst pipe at the javelin turf.

According to Kobus de Meyer, sport organiser at Tom Naudé the hosting school, the meeting will continue as planned.

“Alternative arrangements have been made for the athletic item.”

According to Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, the municipality did engage and reach consensus with the organisers of the athletics event with regards to this particular track.

“Damage to the track was caused by a leak on the pipe responsible for maintenance of the pitch.  The damage is currently receiving attention and will be fixed.”

“The damage  is unfortunate and unplanned and we have agreed on a setup to ensure the particular sport code continues as planned,” concludes Mothapo.
