2 take on long walk to CT to help needy students

Their target time is 2 months.

LIMPOPO – Two Sekhukhune Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students at CS Barlow campus have embarked on a walk from Motetema outside Groblersdal, Limpopo to Cape Town to raise funds for needy students.

According to Thato Mohubedu, the walk coordinator, the two students, John Leshilo (30) who is blind and Samuel Moela (25), left Motetema last Tuesday at about 08:00 to begin their walk.

“The initiative is aimed at raising funds to help needy students at our college. We noticed some of the students had to drop out of the college due to financial constraints. The walk aims to highlight their plight and raise funds to help those in need continue their studies,” Mohubedu explained. “We appeal to anyone who can help make the two’s journey a success. Any help will be greatly appreciated.”

Leshilo spoke to CV last Wednesday and said they were in Braamfontein, Johannesburg and were determined to reach their destination.

“It is difficult but we remain focused on our end goal and we will not give up. The walk is tiring and often unsafe as we have to travel long distances at night, but we are determined to see it through and reach Robben Island,” Leshilo said.

“Their target time to reach their destination, Cape Town, is two months. It will be a great and heartening achievement for them if they reach their destination sooner. They are truly an inspiration to all,” Mohubedu said. Anyone interested in helping the pair on their journey and reaching their goals of raising funds for needy students can contact Mohubedu at 082 223 8836.
