Teen fashion queen

This Gr 12 learner knows what she wants and has the material to sew a successful future in the fashion industry

POLOKWANE – A Gr 12 learner from Noorderland High School is making a name for herself in the world of fashion.

Phathutshedzo Nekhavhambe not only has a sharp mind; she also has an unmatched eye for fashion as she began her own swimwear line, Black Petro Swimwear, last year.

“I have been designing my own clothes and styling friends and family for special occasions for some time now. I knew I wanted a career in fashion and decided to start making things happen for myself,” she explains.

“My aunt, Sandra Sathekge, played a huge role in motivating and inspiring me to believe that anything I wanted was within my reach. Being a designer herself, she was the one who taught me how to sew and improve on my designs. I really owe her a lot,” the teen gushes.

Although she specialises in swimwear, she also designs casual dresses.

She says she would love to study fashion at the London School of Arts and she cannot wait to start her career as a fashion mogul.
