Patients take a walk on the wild side

130 patients from clinics in the province were treated to a day in the Kruger National Park

LIMPOPO – Patients serviced by Kutama and Sinthumule Clinics outside Makhado were treated to an outing to the Kruger National Park’s Shingwedzi Camp last Wednesday.

According to one of the coordinators of the trip, Elias Mathivha, the visit to the park was part of the royal council’s initiative, a joint venture between the Department of Health and G Phadziri and Sons Bus Services.

“This initiative sends a message that mentally-ill people can live normal lives,” Mathivha said.

Some of the nurses from the clinics joined the 130 patients on the trip and ensured the patients took their medication while enjoying the scenery.

“Seeing different animals such as elephants, zebra and buffalo in the Kruger National Park was a wonderful experience for the patients. We spent the day at the camp and it was well enjoyed by all,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of G Phadziri and Sons Bus Services, Mmbulaheni Nwanamidwa said the trip formed part of their social responsibility projects and they were happy to do something for the patients.

“We wanted to do something special for the patients because we feel they are often neglected and deserved to get out and breathe in the fresh air in the Kruger National Park,” Nwanamidwa said.
