UPDATE: Unilim classes resume peacefully

The academic calendar for the year will be re-scheduled to accommodate the time lost during the protests - Vice Chancellor and Principal, Mahlo Mokgalong. See the revised program here.

LIMPOPO – All academic activities at the University of Limpopo resumed on Wednesday 12 October after an almost two week suspension due to violent clashes at the campus during #feesmustfall protests.

Information circulating on social media confirm that classes resumed as normal without any sign of protest, even though there is said to be a strong police presence on the campus grounds.

This follows the suspension of all academic activities on 28 September. The decision was taken in interest of the safety and security of students, staff and university property explained Vice Chancellor and Principal, Mahlo Mokgalong.

This decision was reversed on 7 October after management announced that academic activities would resume on 12 October when students were allowed to enter the premises and students residences yesterday (Tuesday).

In a statement last week Mokgalong announced that the academic calendar for the year will be re-scheduled to accommodate the time lost during the protests. “The university cannot afford to lose any more time,” he added.

Management  further appealed to students to use the remainder of this academic year productively and apply themselves diligently to ensure academic success. “Should this opportunity to complete the academic programme be lost, the consequences may be far reaching and dire,” Mokgalong concluded.
