Politician arrested for alleged rape, bribery

A politician affiliated to the ruling party has reportedly been arrested and is expected to appear in the Mokopane Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of rape and bribery allegedly dating back to earlier this year.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspect has been in custody since last night and was due to appear in court today. He was however not brought before a magistrate and was expected to appear tomorrow, he said.
He stated that the charges related to an alleged incident at a Mokopane hotel in April this year. It was learnt that the complainant in the matter is a 33-year-old woman.
Aluwani Netsianda for the ANC in Limpopo said they didn’t have full facts around what was happening, but as soon as they did they would be able to provide informed comment.
