POLOKWANE – Water is a vital resource as without it, humankind will not survive. Unfortunately, South Africa is in the grip of a drought with no sign of relief in the near future.
Loraine Sadler says when they make coffee, they only put enough water in the kettle for the cups they want to make. “We also placed a brick in the toilet tank to save water.”
Connie Machethe says she does not let the tap run while brushing her teeth. She does not allow her children to play with water.
Chandré Coetzee says they do not water their garden anymore.
Thabo Ramaphoko says he no longer waters his garden anymore.
Willem Beetge says his wife and daughter bath together and he takes quick showers. They also do not water their garden anymore.
Anna Maphori says she has a Jojo-tank that stores water. She does all her washing by hand as the washing machine takes too much water and does not water her garden.
Llewellyn Wiggill says they also have a borehole at home but his family makes a point of using water sparingly.
Manamela Nkele says her family makes uses of a spritser made out of a 2L bottle to water their garden. “I do not use the washing machine as it uses too much water, instead I do the washing with my hands.”
Mardien Smit says although they have a borehole at home, they use their bathwater to water the grass in their yard.
