The case against 37 Zimbabweans accused of allegedly entering the country and two taxi drivers accused of transporting them was postponed to next week by Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said an intelligence led operation comprising members of the the flying squad, Crime Intelligence Unit and Drugs and Narcotics Unit yielded good results on Friday.
“We received information about three taxis allegedly transporting illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe to Pretoria.
It is reported that the illegal immigrants entered South Africa via the Limpopo River and not through the Beitbridge border post.
The vehicles were driving along the N1 South when spotted by Police and stopped and searched,” Ngoepe said.
The suspected illegal immigrants, 21 men, 11 women and five children, are charged for contravention of the Immigration Act. “The two drivers were also arrested for transporting illegal immigrants under the Immigration Act,” Ngoepe said.
