Local youth organisation give a helping hand

Motivational Drive plan to collect and hand out sanitary towels to girls in schools until the end of the school year

POLOKWANE – The Motivational Drive is an organisation consisting of kind-hearted individuals who tackle issues that people in their community deal with daily and they are currently collecting and distributing sanitary towel drive for less-privileged girls.

According to drive founder, Lehlohonolo Thoabala, adolescence is a crucial stage in life and one that is challenging for most girls because of its physical and psychological changes.

He says they are focused on rural areas because that is where the problem of unemployment is a big challenge as many households cannot afford to buy sanitary towels for young girls in their homes. “There are hundreds of girls in primary and high schools in rural areas whose parents cannot afford to buy sanitary towels for them. We want to help those girls,” Thoabala says.

“Every month during their menstruation cycles, these girls do not attend school. This affects their confidence and academic performance in the long run,” he says.

Thoabala says the high unemployment rate affects many people, however if learners continue to take their education seriously and focus on their studies, then they can overcome the challenge.

“We all know this is an issue and we are asking people to help us do something about it,” Thoabala explains.

He says they have donated a number of sanitary towels over the last few weeks and will continue to do so until the end of November.

Anyone willing to donate sanitary towels in partnership with The Motivational Drive can contact Lehlohonolo Thoabala at 079 394 5439 or 074 840 6923 or e-mail Lt.thoabala@gmail.com.
