No arrests have been made yet in the manhunt for four suspects who allegedly robbed the Telkom store in Mall of the North (MoN) and fleeing the scene with cell phones worth nearly R700 000 last Thursday.
According to MoN General Manager Sumari de Ridder three suspects arrived at the mall – one in a vehicle and the other three in taxis. The one who arrived in a vehicle entered Checkers and bought toilet paper while the trio proceeded to Telkom. The incident happened at about 09:30.
“The trio casually entered the shop pretending to be clients. One of them showed a staff member a firearm in a holster fastened to his belt and ordered everyone to the storeroom in the back of the shop. Meanwhile the other suspect pushed a trolley with the toilet paper to Telkom, leaving the trolley for the trio to transport the stolen goods. He left with only the toilet paper for his vehicle,” De Ridder said.
She added that the robbers nonchalantly left the shop with two big bags and made their way to the exit where the suspect who left with the toilet paper was waiting in his vehicle in which all four fled.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed the incident and said they are investigating a case of business robbery. “The robbers took 20 Huawei cell phones, 20 iPhones, 20 Sumsung S7 Edge cell phones and four wireless internet routers to the value of R666 400,” Ngoepe said.
Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Lebea on 079 552 3662 or 072 074 3005.
