‘A teacher’s good work cannot pass unnoticed’

POLOKWANE – MEC for Education, Ishmael Kgetjepe hereby wishes all the province’s teachers a happy World Teachers Day.

World Teachers Day is celebrated annually on this day (5 October), marked by awareness campaigns aimed at creating a better understanding of the profession. Over 100 countries observe World Teachers Day. This support is also facilitated by the Education International (EI), a global union federation which represents education professionals worldwide.

Limpopo has over 50 000 educators. These are men and women who are dedicated to developing the province. Their efforts will continue to be recognised during the World Teachers Day celebrations and beyond. “Their good work cannot pass unnoticed,” Spokesperson for Education, Dr Naladzani Rasila said.

“On behalf of the department, the MEC would also like to thank teachers for the good work they are doing in preparing for the 2016 final examinations. Limpopo is ready for the Gr 12 examinations which are set to start on Monday, 24 October,” Rasila added.

He said the department continues to monitor poor performing schools and will step in where needed as part of their effort to give learners maximum support. “The system will fail without a dedicated team of educators. The MEC also makes a call to all education social partners to support education activities,” Rasila said.

Here follows a few simple ways learners can show gratitude for their teachers when they go back to school:

• Send a handwritten note. A physical card is much nicer than only sending an email to say thank you. It’s a more personal gesture and it is more meaningful than an ecard or email. It will also give your teacher a physical keepsake to remember their former students by.

• Consider a homemade gift. It doesn’t need to be expensive or extravagant. Giving a gift to your teacher to say thank you is already going above and beyond, so think about giving a handmade gift.

• Leave them a detailed positive evaluation specifying exactly what you loved about their course and what their dedication meant to you.
