Man killed trying to stop armed robbery

No arrests have been made as yet and police investigations continue.

LIMPOPO – Police have launched a manhunt for nine armed suspects involved in a robbery and murder in Giyani area this morning (Sunday).

A community member was shot and killed while trying to intervene in a robbery at a spaza shop at Makgakgapatje village outside Giyani at around 01:00 this morning, provincial police spokesprson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“It is alleged that the armed suspects broke into the spaza shop and held the guards at gun point while robbing the shop of an undisclosed amount of money, airtime and cellphones.”

Community members were alerted about the robbery and responded immediately. The suspects fired several shots in the direction of the group which hit and killed a 23-year-old man who was  a short distance away from the shop. The suspects robbed the deceased of his cellphone and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

No arrests have been made as yet and police investigations continue.
