Sub-R150k cars in the spotlight

The Automobile Association (AA) recently released an eye-opener report that assesses the safety of 23 cars available to buy new in South Africa for under R150 000.

This project takes a look at the safety performance of new runabout cars, and to encourage new car buyers to consider safety above all else.

According to the association people look too often “only at the price-tag and gimmick features of a new car, and don’t put safety in their basket of requirements.”All 23 cars assessed in the report were grouped into three, based on their safety-outcome, namely acceptable, moderate and poor. Various important factors were also accounted, such as international safety ratings and price.

The highest rating achievable was 9.00 points on the AA’s Safety/Affordability index, calculated with all contributing factors.

The AA urges all motorists to drive safely and to consider safety first in every situation.
