GROBLERSDAL – The 339 learners at Moosrivier Combined School outside Groblersdal were gifted schools shoes by the Department of Education in partnership with Old Mutual last Tuesday. They also donated a green kitchen to ensure the learners always have fresh food to eat.

According to the department, they wanted to equip learners with tools that would see them achieve academic success.

Department of Education MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe, said they approached Old Mutual and proposed a partnership to help the learners after they became aware of their needs.

“As government, with Limpopo Premier, Stanley Mathabatha leading the programme, we noticed many learners lack proper school shoes. Over the last couple of months, in partnership with Old Mutual, we have managed to give new school shoes to many needy learners in the Sekhukhune district,” said Kgetjepe.

He urged businesses and individuals to do their bit to better the lives of learners in Limpopo.

“We must work together to help needy learners whose families cannot afford to buy them proper school uniforms or shoes. We are in discussion with the management of the school to find out what else they are in need of,” he added.

Moosrivier Combined School Acting Principal, Julia Makweng, expressed her gratitude.

“The green kitchen will greatly benefit the school’s feeding scheme programme. It has all the necessary tools the school needs to make the programme work efficiently. We thank the department and Old Mutual for reaching out and helping us,” she said.
