MGM Motors’ fourth blood drive of the year yielded seven units of blood last Thursday.
Among the donors on the day was Personal Assistant and receptionist Brenda Ball who donated her 25th unit of blood.
She said although she doesn’t quite recall when she donated blood the first time, she knows that her motivation comes from wanting to make a difference in other people’s lives and help save lives. Some of her relatives are also donors and she said she keeps on trying to motivate the rest to start donating.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) reminded that blood is alive as it contains living cells. Unlike medication blood cannot be manufactured and obtaining healthy blood from donors is the service’s only way of building stock that answers to the demand and assists in the saving of lives.
The seven units of blood donated at MGM Motors can help save the lives of 21 persons. Dottie Pinn, SANBS Limpopo Public Relations Officer said regular donors ensure that the safety of blood and the blood products derived from it is maintained.
