The foundation phase learners of Northern Muslim School held its annual Jalsa or concert for the parents on Friday evening.
Mohammed Patel in Grade 2 started the Jalsa with a rendition of the Qur’an which was followed by the Grade 3A’s Nazm or presentation titled Bismillah and the Grade 1F’s Nazm on My Mother.
The first part of the evening’s Jalsa was devoted to poems, sketches and Nazms on parents and parenthood, concluded by the Grade 2 play “Parents know best.”
The second part of the evening was focussed on the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca, which is the aspiration of all Muslims, with the Grade 3A class giving facts on the pilgrimage and the Grade 3M class about the days of Hajj and a Nazm about the mountains of Makkah. It is now the time of the year which the Hajj takes place, with 9 to 14 September the days of Hajj.
“We inculcate the values of Islam in learners through our concert,” Moulana Ebrabim, an intermediate phase Teacher said after the Jalsa. “It is universal values found in all religions.”
He gave a running commentary on the learners’s Nazms and plays, telling more about the values and ways of Muslim people.
