CPF to get ‘half-naked roamer’ needed help

The man roaming the city streets half naked was released after police earlier this week took him in for public indecency.

POLOKWANE – Capt Ntobeng Phala shed some light on the current situation: “We simply removed him from public space. As the police our primary objective is crime prevention but we also have a moral obligation to protect the public from immoral acts. We cannot let a man walk around the streets naked in full view of young children, and women”.

He elaborated by saying the man has since been taken to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and Phala says he hopes they can sedate the “deranged man”.

“We hope they can sedate him and find his next of kin so that he can receive treatment. We will make sure we also engage with the Departments of Health and Social development so that we can find a solution to this problem,” Phala continued.

Johan Retters, Chairperson for the Polokwane Community Policing Forum (CPF) told Review there was nothing that the CPF could do except assist the police in getting the needed paperwork done to get the man the needed assistance.

“This man needs help and for his own safety and the safety of the community police, the CPF will be seeking to get the man the help he needs. He had help at some point in his life and for some reason or the other he has gone off his medication or something happened and he must be helped,” Retters concluded.
