Mall robbery: armed suspects still at large

Police have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly robbed the Telkom shop situated in the Mall of the North this morning.

POLOKWANE – A police report stated that an employee of the said business explained that the suspects entered the store pretending to be customers. One of the four suspects pulled out a firearm and ordered everyone in the store to cooperate as it is a robbery in progress.

Brig Mojapelo, from the South African Police Service said the suspects fled the scene with 20 Huawei, 20 iPhones, 20 Samsung S7 Edge cellphones and four Routes to the value of R666 400.

“All stolen items were put in bags but no shots were fired,” Mojapelo said.

Jurgens Nel, Mall security manager, said according to eye-witnesses and the Mall’s CCTV Footage no firearms were visible during the robbery.

Residents are assured that the Mall is safe for shopping and anyone with information that can assist the police with their investigation can contact WO Lebea on 079 552 3662, 072 074 3005 or the nearest police station.

“Investigations continue,” he says.

POLOKWANE – According to information received a robbery took place at a store in Mall of the North this morning (Thursday).

Representative of the owners of Mall of the North, Suzan Tempel, can confirm that there was such an incident.

Suspects entered Telkom store and demanded the staff handover goods. The value of the stolen goods is not yet known and investigations continue says Tempel.

Our call for comment to Telkom management went unanswered.

“Police can confirm that there was a robbery at the Telkom store in the mall”, says Polokwane Police spokesperson Capt Ntobeng Phalala.

“No further information is currently available and investigations continue,” he says.

Residents are assured that the Mall is safe for shopping.
