Healers perform road rituals

LIMPOPO – Traditional healers in the province recently gathered on the N1 North betweeen the Capricorn Plaza and Louis Trichardt to perform a cleansing ceremony.

President of the Vhembe Traditional Healers, Mbulaheni Mbilivhili Neluvhola said they believe the gods’ interference can stop bloodshed on the roads. There has been an increase in accidents and fatalities on the road and the healers came together to perform a cleansing ceremony which they say reduce the rate of accidents that take place on the province’s roads.

“We are healing this road of death, so that motorists will be safe. As things stand now, the N1 reaks of blood,” he said.

“We have also sent a message to our ancestors to interfere in our parliamentary caucuses to preserve peace. All parliamentarians should promote peace regardless of race and political affiliation,” he continued. He further said the youth should stop burning schools. He said they should preserve facilities such as libraries and schools for future generations and conduct themselves in an orderly manner.

The Premier, Stan Mathabath, was also present at the event and did not have much to say about the ritual but commented on the 20th anniversary Heritage Day. “Limpopo is one of the richest provinces when it comes to the diversity of culture. We live in a melting pot of diversity. We do things with class and style. Our celebrations are always marked by a blend of colour, song and dance,” he said.

“This province is home to ancient yet dynamic kingdoms; this is the home of the Kingdom of Thulamela. All this and more form part of our rich tangible heritage, and we should all do our part to preserve it,” said Mathabatha.
