Suspect caught with gold, precious stones

The Police in Musina have arrested a 45-year-old man for possession of gold/ precious stone and bribery, this according to a statement issued by LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

LIMPOPO – It is alleged the complainant was performing his duties as a scanner operator at the Beitbridge port of entry when a white truck was profiled for scanning. The complainant asked the driver what he was transporting in his truck, and the driver said it was his personal belongings.

The driver was instructed to drive through the scanner but he refused and offered the complainant R200 to pass through the without being scanned.

“The complainant insisted the truck be scanned after which the driver offered him a further R800 bribe money,” Ngoepe stated. The truck was scanned and searched manually and police found undeclared goods wrapped in brown tape. Police confirmed the goods to be precious stones/ gold.

The truck driver was arrested immediately. He appeared before the Musina Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday) and was remanded in custody  until 3 October.  Police investigations are still continuing.
