Man behind bars for public indecency
A seemingly homeless man who in recent weeks had been spotted by several Review readers, was earlier today taken into custody by the police.
POLOKWANE – The man, whose identity is unknown, has continued to draw attention mainly for the fact that his private parts are exposed.
He was today arrested on a charge of public indecency.
Even though Review could find little evidence of the man being a threat, several readers complained and Community Policing Forum social media groups were abuzz with information about the man being a danger to society.
He is alleged to have worn women’s underwear at times.
According to one resident Annecke Pretorius the man should be removed from the streets.
“It’s disturbing to see this man especially when I am in the car with my grandchildren. It is unacceptable that a person can just walk around naked in the street and no one does anything about it. He should be removed to at least given medication,” Pretorius said, implying that the man had been mentally unstable.
The man’s seemingly peculiar conduct, coupled with his appearance has also elicited comment in terms of his origins.
Many believe a spell had been placed on him for earlier wrongdoings.
The President of the Vhembe Traditional Medical Practitioners, Mbulaheni “Mbilivhili” Neluvhola said often in deep rural areas, when citizens are found guilty of certain wrongdoings, their relatives may consult sangomas. This can result in the person walking around naked, and living off the streets because of the curse put on them.”
