Police nab cattle thieves on the way to an auction

Police recovered ten heads of cattle and three calves in Mokopane and Polokwane areas

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Police Stock Theft Unit  arrested three suspected cattle thieves in two separate incidents on Friday afternoon in Mokopane and Westenburg.

In the first incident the police received a tip-off about six men who were on route to Mokopane to sell the suspected stolen cattle at an auction says provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“On arriving at the scene the two identified men were found in possession of 4 heads of cattle and three calves. The rest of the suspects (four) fled in an white Izuzu Bakkie.”

The two suspects, between the ages of 31 and 38 years old were arrested on the spot and will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on the charge of possession of stolen livestock says Ngoepe.

Meanwhile a 38-year-old manfound to be transporting 6 heads of cattle was arrested along the Mashashane Road outside Polokwane. He will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on charge of possession of stolen livestock.

Police investigations into both incidents continue adds Ngoepe.

The court dates have not yet been specified.
