The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) are currently investigating offenses in terms of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Activities Act of 2004 which were committed in connection with the affairs of the Lepelle Northern Water Board (LNW) following a Proclamation issued by President Jacob Zuma earlier this year.
According to the proclamation serious maladministration in connection with the entity’s affairs are investigated as well as the improper and unlawful conduct of employees of LNW, the unlawful appropriation or expenditure of public money or property, unlawful, irregular or unapproved acquisitive acts, transactions, measures or practices having a bearing upon state property and the intentional or negligent loss of public money or damage to public property.
The proclamation has a bearing and will cover the period from 1 February 2014 until the date of the proclamation.
The investigation and proclamation also covers the affairs of the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Neither the SIU nor LNW may at this stage talk to the media about the issues under investigation. Sefura Mongalo, Spokesperson for the SIU confirmed that they are busy with the investigation and so did Phineas Legodi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of LNW, but they could not elaborate further on issues pertaining to the investigation.
