A memorandum containing grievances relating to as yet undisclosed issues will be handed over to the management of the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) today.
Nehawu affiliated workers have been picketing during their lunch break at the department’s head office in Rabe Street since Monday.
The workers did not want to talk to the media prior to the handing over the memorandum today, but placards suggested at issues such as bonuses, the re-instatement of unfairly dismissed workers, salary increments, lower level workers asking to be granted access to computers, the finalisation of traditional affairs’ structures and access of people with disabilities to the 28 Market Street building.

Jimmy Selemela, Nehawu representative addresses workers after a delegation of the union talked to Coghsta management on Tuesday.

The workers vowed to picket again on Wednesday and to hand over the memorandum on Thursday, where after they would give management seven days during which to respond to their demands. There also were talks about a possible provincial Nehawu strike before the end of the month. Union members from other departments allegedly also attended the pickets and they were thanked for their support.
