Four armed robberies in one week have residents on high alert

Armed robberies have drastically increased in Mokopane and in the last week alone, three businesses and one family were targeted.

MOKOPANE – The community were in shock after five armed men gained entrance to a well-known family’s house in the early hours of Wednesday (14 September) morning. Three of the robbers were armed with firearms and two had knives.  They tied the husband up and made his two sons sit with him in the bathroom while they ransacked the house and threatened the wife at gunpoint. According to Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, one of the men escorted the wife to the family’s business where she handed over an undisclosed amount of money to him and he immediately fled the scene. Theses suspects stole various items including two firearms.

The following morning (15 September), a business in De Klerk Street was targeted by two armed men, who stole approximately R80 0000 and only hours later a second business in Nelson Mandela Drive was robbed, also by two armed men.

Masingi reported: “The suspects stole goods to the estimated value of R48688 and R5000 cash.”  On Monday morning (19 September), a third business was targeted by two armed robbers who fled the scene with R80 000 cash.

Masingi said no shots were fired in any of the robberies.
