LIm SAPS clean-up operation successes

56 suspects were arrested and suspected stolen property to the value of R2.5m recovered during a SAPS clean-up operation throughout Limpopo last week.

LIMPOPO – The provincial Intelligence-led joint operation composed of various police units; Crime Intelligenence, VIS, Detectives, TRT, POP and Crime Prevention Units, was conducted in some of the problematic areas which were pinpointed by the recently released crime statistics. These areas inlcluded: Polokwane, Thohoyandou, Modimolle, Tzaneen, Lephalale, Seshego, Makhado, Tubatse and Groblesdal.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe: “A total of 56 suspects were arrested on various offences ranging from possession of drugs, possession of dagga, possession of firearms and ammunition without licence, arson, housebreaking and theft.

A number of stolen and illegal items were recovered during the operation to the estimated value of R2.5m: 6x plasma TV’s, 2x iPad’s, 14x cellphones, 2x firearms, 53 rounds of ammunition which included 6x short gun, 18x rifle, 10x 9mm, 14x 7,65 pistol, nyaope, Crystal meth, cat, tik, dagga, groceries, cash, music system, cigarettes, cosmetics and 8x vehicles.

Investigations are still continuing to determine the origin of all the recovered items said Ngoepe.

The suspects will appear before courts in the different Magisterial districts he added.

The Provincial Commissioner LT.General Nneke Jimmy Ledwaba has congratulated all the members involved for the job-well-done. “Operation clean-up will continue focusing mainly on the crime infested areas. Members of the community are encouraged to support this SAPS operation by supplying information about crimes that have been committed or about those who are still planning to commit a crime.”
