4 suspected rapists nabbed during police ops

A joint SAPS operation composed of Crime Intelligence and Crime Prevention members as well as members from the FCS, conducted in the Tzaneen and Lebowakgomo areas, resulted in the arrest of four wanted men during two separate incidents, on Saturday night.

LIMPOPO – During the operation conducted in Tzaneen area, the police arrested a 42-year-old suspect from Giyani for the kidnapping and rape of a nine-year-old girl at Ga-Mamaila Village in the Bolobedu Policing area two months ago.

“It is alleged that the suspect,  from Gandlanani ( Khani) village, kidnapped the child in Mamaila Village and took her to Mapuve village outside Giyani where he requested accommodation from a family claiming that the child was his daughter and that his vehicle had broken down along the road. During the night he raped the child and fled the scene the following morning and has been on the run since.

During the arrest the suspect was found in possession of dagga weighing 09,49 grams with the street value of R3 322. He faces charges of  kidnapping and rape. Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspect to other crimes which include: two counts of rape in the Sebayeng and Giyani areas and the theft of a motor vehicle in Letsitele.

Meanwhile during the same operation conducted in Lebowakgomo, three suspects, aged 21, 22 and 29-years-old, were arrested for rape and robbery of a woman (21) in Lebowakgomo.

“It is alleged that a 21-year-old woman was jogging when the three suspects attacked and raped her in August 2016. “They threatened her with a knife, dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her. Her cellphone was also stolen during the incident.

All four suspects will appear before Bolobedu and  Lebowakgomo Magistrate courts. They will also face other separate charges at the Giyani, Mankweng and Nkoankoa Magistrate Courts. Police Investigations continues.
