POLOKWANE – The Hawks’ Commercial Crime Unit had a joint operation with the inspectors from the Department of Health and representatives from several branded clothing lines which led to the discovery of a counterfeit goods warehouse in Polokwane on Tuesday, 6 September.
Counterfeit goods such as shoe polish, shaving blades, playing cards, sneakers, pens, cosmetics and sexual enhancement capsules worth over R1 million were confiscated. The suspect will be charged in terms of the Counterfeit Goods Act (No. 37 of 1997).
Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, said the suspect will be dealt with according to the procedures contained in the Act. “In counterfeit cases there is a procedure that needs to be followed before the suspect can be arrested. The suspect is expected to appear before court approximately 21 days after all the procedures were completed and he was arrested,” Maluleke said.
