4-year-old puts his toys to work

Orion Nellestijn expressed his creativity from a young age and has been hard at work ever since perfecting his craft.

POLOKWANE – Orion  is not your typical four-year-old child.

According to his mother, Maggy Nellestijn, Orion began training to become a puppeteer earlier this year and now performs at functions and for his friends.

“He used to insist on having his puppets with him when it was time for his daily bath. We didn’t think anything of it at the time, what child doesn’t enjoying playing with his toys?” she says.

“His grandmother and I began teaching him puppeteer skills around May this year. He is not just a puppeteer; he is also a great actor who can portray any character,” Maggy continues.

According to Maggy, her son will have a huge career in the performing arts industry. Orion’s father, Bas, agrees with Maggy and says his son has a bright future ahead of him.

“He is not a shy child. He can perform for anyone without getting stage fright. If he continues to work hard he definitely has a successful career to look forward to and we will support him no matter what,” Bas said.

Review asks Orion what he enjoys most about working with puppets: “It’s great fun. My favourite puppet to work with is bunny puppet,” Orion said.
