District mayor re-affirms her commitment to serve people

Mopani Mayor, Nkakareng Rakgoale, has undertaken to serve the district in a way that will benefit the majority of people living in it.

LIMPOPO – Speaking after her inauguration as mayor for the second time after her term has ended; the mayor said she would use the opportunity to continue where she left off in her last term.

“I’m ready to work in a manner that will improve the lives of our people. Together with my council we will work tirelessly to ensure the people in this district get the service delivery they deserve,” she said.

Meanwhile the newly elected council has appointed Wireless Sedibeng as the Speaker and Martha Maswanganyi, a former Speaker of the Greater Giyani Municipality, as the Chief Whip of the district.

Other positions were allocated as follows: Planning and Development Chairperson was allocated to Christina Mohale, while Community Services Chairperson was allocated to Annah Sono, previous mayor of the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.

The Roads and Transport portfolio was given to Sefufi Maditshego, followed by Sport, Arts and Culture Chairperson, Mokgobi Matshidso. Agriculture Chairperson was allotted to Masilo Maloko, Finance to Japisa Mathonsi while Governance and Administration was allocated to Nyiko Baloyi.

Previous Greater Letaba mayor, Godfrey Modjadji, is now the Chairperson of the Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC).

Speaking on behalf of the ANC, the newly elected ANC Chief Whip of Mopani district, Martha Maswanganyi, urged the elected councillors to work hard in honour of the people who voted for them in the local government elections. “Without the electorate we wouldn’t be here, therefore it is upon all of us that we should work according to their expectations,” she said.

DA on the other hand, made a similar call for all the elected councillors to respect the will of the people by ensuring they work in a satisfactory manner without corruption.

“We’re not here to enrich ourselves but to serve the people who voted for us. Therefore we need honest, hardworking councillors and officials with integrity to take us forward,” said DA councillor, René Pohl.
