Boy (7) loses hand in firework accident

A boy (7), was admitted to Pietersburg Provincial Hospital on Saturday afternoon, 3 September, after a cracker exploded in his hand.

POLOKWANE –  A boy (7), was admitted to Pietersburg Provincial Hospital on Saturday afternoon, 3 September, after a cracker exploded in his hand.

Caroline Strydom, mother of the seven-year-old Koos Wessels, said she was cleaning the house with him helping her, when she heard a loud noise followed by her child screaming.
It seems her son had gone into his sister’s room where he found the bomb cracker.
Strydom opted to not wait for an ambulance to arrive, and with the help of a friend, took her son to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital.

His hand was amputated on Saturday evening. According to the boy’s family the operation was successful, but the boy needs to be transfered to another hospital.

The boy’s mother does not have medical aid. The family is pleading with the community to assist them in anyway possible.
