PEC: Dirty comrades, beware

The ANC's Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) plans to convene within the next few days and do introspection into the listing processes of councillors, which happened prior to the Local Government Election, as they believe some irregularities occurred.

LIMPOPO – The PEC plans serious action against those who involved themselves in irregularities during the listing processes for councillors as they believe this led the party losing support in the election.

The announcement was announced at Frans Mohlala House on Thursday.

The Provincial Secretary of the ANC, Nocks Seabi said even the National Executive Committee (NEC) acknowledged that something was amiss during the councillors’ listing process as the ANC received many complaints in this regard.

“Factions are destroying the movement. We will seek professionals to conduct research as to why people didn’t vote and ‘dirty’ comrades will be brought to book.”

“We will examine the work we have been doing, assess areas of concern and develop a framework to move forward more efficiently. The PEC sitting will reflect on the outcomes of elections and develop a programme to mitigate our challenges. Beyond the PEC session we are convening, we will go back to our regions and branches to listen to their views and advice. We will engage with all our leagues, alliance partners, traditional leaders and structures of civil society,” he said.

“We wish to place it on record that our PEC is very robust; various ideas are contested from various angles before a decision is arrived at on every issue. This reflects the vibrancy of democracy in our executive structures and it can only be mischievous to portray that as a sign of divisions. Our unity is not defined by a uniform of thinking but by a revolutionary purpose which binds us as revolutionaries,” he said.

Speculation has also been rife from the so called “reliable sources” about how divided our PEC is over the 2017 ANC’s National Elective Conference. We must indicate that there is no discussion in our PEC about the 2017 conference. We will discuss issues of the 2017 conference at the right time, and when we do so, we will be ready to appreciate divergent views,” he said.

“During the election campaign, our revolutionary alliance was in action. Cosatu, SACP and Sanco walked with us every step of the way to ensure this victory. The nature of our alliance is robust, and we shall continue to robustly engage with our alliance partners on all areas of concern as we move forward in fulfilling our tasks to complete the revolutionary project.

“We shall continue to work together with our alliance partners through joint political programmes to build a strong working alliance,” said Seabi

ANC Chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha said he believed the 44 000 people who didn’t vote in Vuwani could have voted for the ANC as the party garnered good support in the area previously. This year, a handful of voters in the area participated in the 3 August elections.
