Three hardened criminals behind bars

All three suspects are from the Makgofe area outside Polokwane.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo High Court handed hefty sentences to two of the three accused who have been terrorising the community around Polokwane and Seshego, yesterday (Wednesday).

The three were arrested shortly after two of them were linked to several cases including two of murder. All three are from the Makgofe area, outside Polokwane says police spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba.

Emanuel Flamingo Dube (26), from Makgofe was sentenced to life imprisonment plus a further fifteen years after being found guilty on several charges ranging from 2 counts of murder, 2 counts of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of fire arm, unlawful possession of ammunition, attempted murder, attempted robbery. The accused was found guilty following the incidents with the first incident on 5 July 2013, where a ward councillor was shot dead along Rheinland and Kanana road after giving lift to the suspect who was with his friend. On 6 July 2013, a man was shot dead in his vehicle and robbed of his belongings including a cellphone, which was later recovered. This incident occured in the Seshego industrial area and the accused will serve a further life imprisonment for 15 years.

Maguda Derick Shumba (26), was also found guilty and sentenced to 22 years imprisonment after being found guilty on four counts of charges including attempted murder, attempted robbery, unlawful possession of fire arm and unlawful possession of ammunition. The court appearance of the accused is the sequel to an incident that happened at Moletji Ga Legodi where an attempt was made to rob a businessman however, nothing was taken during the incident. The accused, who was with Dube, was found guilty as charged and sentenced  as follows, six years for attempted  robbery, eight years imprisonment for attempted murder,  five years for unlawful possession of fire  arm and three years for unlawful possession of ammunition. Effectively the accused will serve eight  year imprisonment as the other charges will run concurrently with the  charge of attempted murder.

Jeoffrey Diyabo Mbedzi (24) was sentenced to an effective life imprisonment for cases of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. The accused was with Dube and Shumbe and after killing the councillor, he took the deceased’s belongings including cellphones which were later recovered during the arrest of the accused. The accused was found guilty on the four counts and will effectively serve life imprisonment.
