The case docket was still at court and the investigating officer would be able to comment today (Thursday) as to the reasons for the withdrawal.

The case, which Review reported on in the edition of 18 August, was followed after Capt Ntobeng Phala from the Polokwane Police Station released a media statement on Friday, 12 August that a 59-year-old news editor was arrested and detained for defeating the ends of justice.

According to the police statement, the man was arrested by Limpopo Traffic Police Officers after he seemingly disobeyed a traffic sign on the corner of Hospital and Silicon Streets on the morning of 12 August.

The police media statement also read that after the traffic officers pulled the man over to issue him with a fine, he furnished them with false information.

Phala added that the information was initially released by the Polokwane Police Station, but the case was later referred to the Westenburg police station as the alleged crime had been committed in their jurisdiction area.

When contacted for comment, the man told Review he was not aware that the case against him had been dropped. He did not give any additional comment.
