Telkom services to be restored soon

A team of technicians are currently working around the clock to repair the damaged cables following acts of sabotage on Monday.

LIMPOPO – Telkom services in various parts of Limpopo are expected to be restored by this evening.

Telkom lines from Mookgophong to Louis Trichardt  have been down since yesterday (Monday) due to to fibre cable damage, leaving over 50 000 customers which include businesses, government and residences without connectivity.

According to Telkom’s Group Communication Executive Gugulethu Maqetuka several kilometers of fibre cables were cut by saboteurs in the Roedtan, Mookgophong and Mokopane areas on Monday night.

“A team of technicians are currently working around the clock to ensure all Telkom services are restored early this evening. We expect services to be back online early this evening (Tuesday),” adds Maqetuka.

LIMPOPO – According to reports, Telkom lines are down from Mookgophong  to Louis Trichardt due to fibre cable damage.

In a national statement released on last Friday, Telkom’s Group Communication Executive Gugulethu Maqetuka said that since the Communication Workers Union strike two weeks ago, the company had experienced a dramatic spike in acts of sabotage to their network, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Limpopo had been critically affected by network failures reported the Citizen.

In an effort to hunt down saboteurs targeting Telkom facilities and infrastructure, the telecommunications giant has offered a reward of R1 million for information leading to prosecution.

“We urge the public and our own employees who have information or can help identity these criminals to contact our crime reporting line at 0800 124 000.”

Maqetuka said investigations have already been launched and Telkom expected arrests ‘shortly’.

Disconnected clients are urged to report their downed lines to a Telkom Support Centre.

“Telkom has identified a network outage in the area. If your service is affected, you may report it at 10210 (residential) or 10217 (business).”
