SAPS officer, accomplice in dock for corruption

Both suspects have appeared in Phalala Magistrate Court on Monday 29 August.

LIMPOPO – The Hawks’ Anti-Corruption Unit members have arrested police Constable Mahlatse Phillip Tselana (30) stationed at Groblersbridge Port of Entry and his accomplice Lesley Malose Molele (31) for corruption on Saturday.

According to the statement release by the Hawks Spokesperson Capt Matimba Maluleke, the intelligence revealed that Tselana demanded a bribe from Mozambican nationals in June this year in order to allow them to cross the border with a car that was stolen from the Department of Agriculture in the North West Province.

Capt Matimba Maluleke said the victims managed to pay R5 000 on the spot to the Constable and promised to pay an outstanding R16000 so that their car can be released.

Tselane gave the bank account of his friend, Molele, to the victims and the outstanding R16 000 was deposited into that account. Both suspects have appeared in Phalala Magistrate Court on Monday 29 August. However, they were remanded in custody until the 6 September for formal bail application.

Maluleke said, “The stolen car was recovered since it was kept in the camp waiting for the victims to pay the outstanding amount.”
