Manhunt still underway: 2 of 3 escapees rearrested

LIMPOPO – The second of three awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Letsitlele police holding cells on Sunday afternoon has been rearrested, say the police.

This brings the number of escapees rearrested to two, 25-year-old Bethuel Simango who was arrested who faces the charges counts of house robbery, rape and two counts of housebreaking and theft, is still on the run confirms Lt Col Mopatshe Ngoepe on Tuesday.

Through the active support of the farmers and community members, 26-year-old Muye Makgopa was arrested in the Letsitele farm area on Monday. He faces the charges of two counts attempted murder, housebreaking and theft and possession of firearm without licence with the added charge of escaping from lawful custody.

Makgopa and Ike’ Ngobeni (27) will both appear in the Nkoankoa Magistrate Court today on the charge of escaping from lawful custody.

A SAPS special task team is still following the suspect. Anyone who knows about their whereabouts,  may contact Captain Masilo Notoane on 082 469 0900 or the nearest Police Station or the 24-hour crime stop number on 0860010111 .

Police investigations are still continuing.

LIMPOPO – Letsitlele police have launched a massive manhunt for two of three awaiting trail prisoners who escaped from the police holding cells yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

“The three prisoners escaped through the roof of the exercise room at round 18:40 on Sunday. The third escapee, Ike’ Ngobeni (27) from Mozambique was rearrested in the early hours of this morning within the Letsitele farming area,” says police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.”

Ngobeni was previously arrested on two counts of house robbery, rape and two counts of housebreaking and theft he adds.

The remaining two suspects are: Bethuel Simango (25) also from Mozambique who face the charges of two counts of house robbery, rape and two counts of housebreaking and theft and Muye Makgopa (26) from Mbekwane village near Mandlakazi in the Letsitele Policing area face he charges of  two counts attempted murder, possession of ammunition without licence and housebreaking and theft.

The circumstances surrounding the escaping is still being investigated he says.

Ngobeni will appear before the Nkoankoa Magistrate Court tomorrow, 30 August ,on the charge of escaping from lawful custody.
