Mogalakwena Municipality: meet the new Executive Council

MOKOPANE -After the biggest Local Government Elections since 1994, took place on 3 August and the first council sitting was held last Wednesday at the Lleka Lekalakla Council Chamber.

Hlengani Samuel Mathebula was elected as the new Speaker, while Mankopane Michael Rapatsa was elected as the new Chief Whip of the Mogalakwena Municipality.

Members of Executive Council and the Portfolios were elected as follows:

• Cllr Semola Masipa- Financial Services Chairperson

• Cllr Malesela Mokwele- Electrical Services Chairperson

• Cllr Mmaphuti Senoamadi- Technical Services Chairperson

• Cllr Pheladi Oliphant- Planning and Developmental Services

• Cllr Mabu Tlhaku- Corporate Support Services

• Cllr Lesibana Langa- Community Services Chairperson

• Cllr Korny Dekker- Special Project Chairperson

• Cllr Manglemang Maepa- Traffic and Emergency Services

• Cllr Vaaltyn Kekana – Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) Chairperson.

The ANC holds the majority of the seats.

They occupy, among others, the position of the mayor, speaker and chief whip and seven Executive Council members while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) each holds one seat.
